The Masterpiece You Can’t Always See

There’s nothing quite like having a child sit on your lap, reaching for every marker they can find and creating their masterpiece. Color after color fills the page, their joy contagious and their focus unwavering. It feels like a million hugs all at once to watch their excitement and contentment. Then you look at the finished picture. You see all the beautiful colors, but not always a clear image of what they intended.
Sometimes, that’s exactly the perspective we need.
Because when God looks at you, He doesn’t see confusion or unfinished lines. He sees every color, every detail, every moment that has shaped your life, and He calls it a masterpiece. God sees you fully. He sees the strands of your story that have led you to where you are today, the parts you celebrate and the parts you might wish looked different. Yet so often, we let those experiences, or even other people, define who we are instead of allowing God to speak our identity.
His truth has never changed. As it says in Psalm 139:13–14, we are fearfully and wonderfully made. He created the masterpiece called you. Not a version of you that has it all together or one untouched by hardship, but you with every color, every layer, every part of your story. These are the very things He uses to shape you, refine you, and draw you closer to His heart.
Just like that child sitting on your lap, you are invited to sit at the feet of Jesus, to rest, to be held, and to be surrounded by His mercy and grace. This is where freedom begins. When you begin to believe that you are fully known and fully loved by a God whose love is deeper than you can comprehend, you begin to see yourself differently. You are not a collection of mistakes or unfinished pieces, but a Masterpiece.
