It's Not About Me?

A familiar phrase has been swirling around in my head over the last several weeks. This phrase, "It's not about me" has a much deeper meaning than I originally thought. As a young child, growing up in a Christian home, I was taught to always think of others before myself, which in itself, isn't a bad concept to learn. However, when you take that phrase to heart and it becomes the core of who you are, it can lead to a skewed sense of self and a roadblock to receiving true love and acceptance from others. Let me explain...
I took this "action" and ran with it. I put everyone's thoughts and feelings before my own. I thought I was being selfless as God had called me to be. I was caring for others and in return thought I was worthy of not only the love and acceptance of others, but of God himself. I believed that if I concentrated on everyone else, then I was good - because that's what God wanted from me - right? So very WRONG!
Over the last few years I've been able to weed through some deep rooted views that I've had of life in general and more specifically life with Jesus at the center. I've come to realize that it truly isn't about me - it's about me and what God can do for me and through me! It's about me in a healthy, dependent and life-giving relationship with my creator, who loves me just as I am, faults and all!
It's also about me accepting the love He has for me and knowing that He will provide for all my needs. I just have to be willing to admit what I need and seek Him. It's me being able to show God's love to other's because I have received and accepted His unconditional love for me. If we can't believe this deep in our souls, then how can we really expect anyone else to come to that same knowledge of living a life with Jesus?
My friends, I've spent many years depending on others to make me fufilled and it doesn't bring happiness or peace. You don't have to be frustrated by other's not giving you what you think you need because it isn't about them either - it's about being completely content and encouraged by the Holy Spirit and what He can accomplish THROUGH you!
So, that young child - she was partly right, but I'd tell her - It's not about me, it's about US! Me and Jesus together walking through each minute, each hour and each and every day that He's blessed me with!
Praying you accept the love Jesus has for you, Praising Him for each blessing he allows me to share with others and Pondering what He has in store next!
Much Love!
